M-i-c-k-e-y Mouse
By the time you read this I will be in a car with my sister Judy and her husband Mark. Ray will be driving and it will be my job to keep him amused.
Very early mornings are not my best time and I usually just let the ipod do the talking. We are headed to a lovely tennis/gold resort in Orlando. I don’t know if I can talk anybody into visiting Mickey but if not I will head off myself for a day. So the bridge and the blogs will be scarce for a while although I do have a game scheduled on Tuesday with Colin, Isabelle and Sondra.
Today I played with Sylvia. We always have a good time online. But I broke my rule about bidding grands. Was this a good thing? Yeah.
Sylvia opened 1 and when I bid 1, I was pleased to hear her raise to 2. Deciding since this was the very last hand to have a thoroughly scientific auction I bid 4NT. Sylvia showed me the missing ace so I asked about the trump queen. She bid 6 which I took to be the K and the Q. The opening lead was the K (did you notice nobody leads a trump against a grand slam any more?) This was her somewhat disappointing hand.
Not that there wasn’t a play for it but I was rather expecting a pretty fast claim if she had the expected king. The hand is very friendly with the heart king onside doubleton, the diamond king coming down doubleton so pretty well any line works.
Here is the whole hand
North 2 K6 1097653 KQ43 |

Linda AK1054 3 AQJ84 A8 |
Sylvia QJ86 AQ1082 - J975 |

South 973 J9754 K2 1062 |
So I suppose this is a Hamman grand and it was reached at the other table and on the identical auction.
My goodness you Canadians open light! 1 1/2 quick tricks? Interestingly it would be a semi-light Flannery 2D opening, which I’d support more than 1H. But oh well. What was Barry Crane’s rule about never bidding grand slams? Well it’s nice to be lucky!
Have a safe and fun trip.
I’m looking forward to our trip to Orlando in the fall. I’ll have to make sure Colin books the time off (and applies for his passport soon!).
Remember to save yourself some Disney energy for when we are there with the kids! This will be a fun trip. I’m sure Jessica will want to meet all of her favorite princesses 🙂
I am looking forward to Orlando as well. I kept talking about how much I would like to be with Jessica and Marcus at Disney the whole time. I think they will like the Kennedy Space Center if we get a chance to go there and downtown Disney.
I am so glad to have grandchildren to enjoy Disney with!
